Fill a ten frame

A ten frame has two rows of 5. Fill it to see how many.

  1. Two rows of five

    The frame has 10 boxes. The top row has 5. The bottom row has 5.

  2. Fill from the left

    Put one counter in each box. Start at the top left.

  3. Empty boxes tell the rest

    7 are full. 3 are empty. 7 and 3 make 10.

  1. How many are full? How many more make 10?

    The top row is full: 5. The bottom row has 1. That is 6. There are 4 empty boxes, so 4 more make 10.

    Answer: 6 full, 4 more

    The top row is full: 5. The bottom row has 3. That is 8. There are 2 empty boxes.

    Answer: 8 full, 2 more
